DO YOU KNOW?...YOU CAN CONTACT AN INDEPENDENT AGENCY TO FIND OUT THE STATUS OF YOUR IMMIGRATION CASE

The Office of the Citizenship and Immigration Services Ombudsman was created in 2002 as an independent office of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for the purpose of reviewing issues raised by individuals and employers which deal with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and recommending changes to DHS.  The website is located at: http://www.dhs.gov/ximgtn/programs/editorial_0497.shtm

In addition, the role of the Ombudsman is to review inquiries from individuals and employers who have cases pending with USCIS if the individual or employer is not receiving a satisfactory explanation from USCIS concerning the status of the case.  The Ombudsman, upon receipt of the information from the inquiry, will initiate a formal inquiry with USCIS.  USCIS will then respond directly to the Ombudsman within forty-five days and the Ombudsman will then forward the response to the individual or employer.  The individual or employer should submit their inquiry on DHS Form 7001 which can be accessed by clicking on the following link: Ombudsman Form.pdf (598.17 kb).
